The choices of each day

When the Storms of Life Don't Stop -

Every time I reflect on the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 5-7, I am struck with how Jesus brings it to a conclusion, laying these choices before me:

  • There is a wide gate in life. Many choose it, though it leads to destruction. There is a small, narrow gate in life that leads to life, which only a few find. What gate will I enter?
  • There is a tree in life that bears good fruit and a tree that bears bad fruit. Others recognize the fruit that is born. What tree will I be?
  • There is a builder in life whose house is constructed on a sandy foundation, and there is a builder in life whose house is built on a solid foundation of rock. The storms of life surely do come. What builder am I?

Again today, I ask, seek and knock, praying: “Holy Spirit produce in me the fruit love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

When those fruits ripen, I become a follower of Jesus who treats others the way I want to be treated, welcoming the Kingdom of Light to push back the kingdom of darkness.

Two gates. Two trees. Two builders. We choose.
