A morning reading and prayer

Try this litany during your quiet time with the Lord … you are both the reader and the responder.  Read silently to yourself the request and then say the response out loud, but quietly.  Try it…

For the peace from above, for the loving kindness of God, and for the salvation of my soul, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For the peace of the world, for the welfare of the Hoy Church of God, and for the unity of all peoples, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For my city (town, village), for every city and community, and for those who live in them, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For seasonable weather, and for an abundance of the fruits of the earth, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For the good earth which God has given us, and for the wisdom and will to conserve it, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For deliverance from all danger, violence, oppression, and degradation, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

For the absolution and remission of my sins and offenses, I pray to the Lord.

Lord have mercy.

Defend me, deliver me, and in your compassion protect me, O Lord, by your grace.

Lord have mercy.

And then finally, this Thanksgiving, which you should try to say aloud softly …

Lord, you now have set your servant free to go in peace as you have promised; for these eyes of mine have seen the savior whom you have prepared for all the world to see:  A Light to enlighten the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.  Amen.
