The old mighty Mississippi never stops. I took this on my Blackberry from my 5th floor room at the Grand Harbor Resort in Dubuque, Iowa, where I am attending a Vineyard meeting.
This morning I watched the river for a long time. It’s mesmerizing. Watching the river made me think about life, which seems a lot like this old river. It just never stops. It keeps coming right at you.
There isn’t a stitch of wind this morning and the Mississippi looks like glass. She doesn’t seem to have a care in the world.
As I watched a duck motor down the middle of the river, making a tiny wake in its trail, I found myself praying the serenity prayer.
“Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change … courage to change the things I can … and wisdom to know the difference.”
