Today I was talking with a woman whose husband has congestive heart disease. She said earlier today he pulled out the tube in his nose. The medical folks tried to put it back in and he fought them and tried to get up and on and on it went, she said. She was waiting for them to get it back in, and literally wringing her hands.
"I have never seen him like this in 50 years. I just don't understand why he has to suffer like this. He's such a good husband."
She paused a minute and then said, "I bet you have lots of questions, too."
I just sort of smiled and told her I was sorry. And then I thought (I didn't say it to the woman)here's my question. "Why did God permit Lucifer to fall? How could a perfectly pure being with no evil inclinations — this beautiful angelic being — suddenly have an evil inclination?"
The origin of sin in created beings really is the ultimate mystery to me.
Somehow, and I haven't the slightest idea how, it was part of God's ultimate plan. But then, God also ordained that there would be a Savior for sinners before the fall.
I just have to believe by faith that he who began a good work in me and you and all who call upon the name of Jesus will bring it to completion… Philippians 1:6
The lady is in a league with the mighty hero Gideon. He said to an angelic visitor: "Sir, if the Lord is with us, why has all this happened to us? And where are all the miracles our ancestors told us about?" (Judges 6:13)
