This is the week where we stop and give thanks for what we have. Right?
It’s a good week for me to take a big breath and give a listen to to these words of I Peter:
“His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature, having escaped the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.”
I like my friend John Doyel’s take on those verses:
We have everything we need … that means everything we need … everything for a godly life already. I hear people say all the time that they need more of God. No, they don’t. He has not short-changed us. It is not a come back next week and get the rest of the package deal we have received. God is ALL IN for us, and He has given us everything we need.
So this week, and in particular on Black Friday, when that voice in my head says, “More. Come on, more. Go for it. … What are you waiting on?” …
I can give myself permission to say to that voice: “God already has given me everything I need for life and godliness through my knowledge of him who called me by his own glory and goodness.”
