An Installation Service & Confession of Sin

I attended the installation service on Sunday afternoon (November 9) of Luke Herche, the new pastor of All Souls Presbyterian Church in Champaign-Urbana. The Presbyterian Church in America follows a clear order of installation for its pastors.

Among the elements included in the service that I really liked was this congregational Confession of Sin:

Most High God, you know how ill equipped I am for your service.  I come to you again — weak, ignorant, and broken.  It seems my every thought and action is tinged by sin.  Renew me in the miracle of gospel faith centered on Jesus my Lord.  Restore again that peace of soul and the enlargement of mind I knew when I first trusted in him.  I long to walk worthy of you, O Lord, in the bright morning of resurrection joy!  According to my own powers this shall never be.  Yet, transformed in Jesus’ righteousness and led by your Spirit, my hope abounds.  All you have accomplished for me by grace is perfect — so I long for chapters of life yet to unfold.  In the name of Jesus, Amen.
