Several years ago I discovered TED Talks. It’s one of the best discoveries I’ve ever made … especially for a guy who spends a lot of his life thinking about the power of words. Over the years I’ve watched some phenomenal TED Talks … some truly outstanding presentations.
Three weeks ago a pastor friend recommended a new book by Carmine Gallo called Talk Like Ted. I bought it and took it with me to northern Michigan where I spent a week reading books and watching the water on Grand Traverse Bay.
Gallo gathered his data by looking at TED Talks that have been viewed more than 1 million times. From those very popular presentations, he discovered 9 public-speaking secrets of the top TED speakers. I liked Gallo’s thoughts and ideas so much that last week I decided to review the book for my Champaign-Urbana News-Gazette Sunday (8/17) column.
The book is an inspiring, fun and quick read. It certainly made me want to work harder on my preaching and public presentations.
