I talk with lots of people, especially pastors, who feel like they just don’t measure up. They feel inadequate and like they have little to offer. I often turn to Psalm 139, especially the first 6 verses.
Psalm 139
New International Version (NIV)
1 You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain …
and you know me.
2 You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
3 You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways.
4 Before a word is on my tongue
you, Lord, know it completely.
5 You hem me in behind and before,
and you lay your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain …

13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Then I ask..
How do you think your life would be different if you knew that God knew everything about you and still loved you unconditionally?
Would anything be different today if you knew that you were fearfully and wonderfully made?
What negative tapes that you play over and over again in your head might be erased if you knew you were created just the way you are, intentionally by God?
… Sometimes if I can get people to consider God’s unconditional love for them, they start to believe more in themselves. I like it when that happens.
All I can think of is the Veggie Tales line, "God made you special and He loves you very much!"In all seriousness, this is really hard for me to grasp. Not the "God loves me and thinks I'm special" part. But that God made all my warts intentionally. Going to have to ponder that tonight.
