Come to me, son … I am coming, Lord

When I want to connect with Jesus I often turn to some of my favorite verses:

Matthew 11:28-30

New International Version (NIV)

28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

And then I turn to one of my all-time favorite hymns when I was a young teen:  “Jesus I come” by William T Sleeper

We went to church Sunday morning and usually Sunday evening.  Sunday evenings we sang lots of hymns, including “Jesus I come.”  This third of four verses is my favorite… And yep, I still love to sing it, letting it draw me to the Lord, just as it did 40 years ago.

“Out of unrest and arrogant pride,
Jesus, I come! Jesus, I come!
Into Thy blessed will to abide,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!
Out of myself to dwell in Thy love,
Out of despair into raptures above,
Upward for aye on wings like a dove,
    Jesus, I come to Thee!”
