Have you ever considered the spiritual disciplines that marked Jesus’ life?
1. Obedience. “Not my will be done.”
2. Simplicity. “Foxes have holes and bird of the air have nests, but the Son Man has no where to lay his head.”
3. Humility. “Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”
4. Frugality. “How hard it will be for those who are rich to enter the kingdom of God.” or “Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.”
5. Generosity. “Jesus saw the huge crowd as he stepped from the boat, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick.”
6. Truthfulness. “Teacher,” they said. “we know how honest you are. You are impartial and don’t play favorites. You teach the way of God truthfully.”
7. Purity. “Blessed are the pure in heart.”
8. Charity. “This is my my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you. There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
Jesus’ relationship with God the Father compelled him in all that he did. “I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it. And I know his commands lead to eternal life; so I say whatever the Father tells me to say.” John 12:49-50
