I had a funny conversation with a group of pastors on a 5-hour ride to a meeting. One said, "I have a question. 'Do you think you are right?'" (Mind you, no topic was on the table. Just the question.)
"Absolutely," one of the pastors answered.
Looking at me, the person who put the question on the table asked, "How about you, Don. Are you right?"
"Well, it depends."
It was an interesting conversation that got me wondering …
If my goal is being right, I often end up being self-righteous.
If my goal is love, I usually end up loving.
If, in being right, I fail to treat others with love and mercy, I am wrong.
It is possible to be right and loving, but it requires treating all people the way I want to be treated.
"If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it, but if I didn't love others, I would have gained nothing." I Corinthians 13:3
