So I pulled into the northwestern Kansas town of Colby today. It's my hometown. It's way out in the middle of the barren High Plains. The wind was blowing 35 MPH and the dust stuck in my teeth. The sky opens up out here … way up. It's expansive. It's flat but the hills roll a bit. Go over a rise and you can see for 20 miles or maybe 200 miles. A long ways…
Dad and mom greeted me warmly. Mom made baked chicken and rice and homemade bread and fresh broccoli and my favorite oatmeal/raisin cookies.
