You see a sign like this and and you smile. You thought you were just a plain, old Christian, didn’t you?
Read I Corinthians 1:10-17, if you wonder how long this kind of thing has been going on? Verses 11 and 12 say, "My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you. What I mean is this: One of you says, ‘I follow Paul’; another, ‘I follow Appollos’; another, ‘I follow Cephas’; still another, ‘I follow Christ.’"
I read the other day that a new "denomination" (most of them, small independent groups) starts everyday somewhere in the United States. I believe it, too. I can only imagine the rate of new churches worldwide. It’s not all bad, mind you. Most of this actitivity has the Lord’s blessing, but not all, sadly.
The fact is, motives rarely are pure in life, and certainly not in the life of the church. Nobody gets out of this old world clean from the messes we’ve made. Not in this life. We are saved by the grace and mercy of God or not all. Thank God!
Anyway, that’s how this regular, general, happy Christian feels about the matter!
