I have found the perfect church, at last. It’s pictured here on the right, and is the very kind of church for which I have longed. Wouldn’t you just love to be part of it? Well, look closely. It’s a Lego church.
Unless you’re a Lego, there is no perfect church. There are only churches where, as the Apostle Paul says, we must continually strive to "be completely humble and gentle … where we must be patient, bearing with one another in love."
One church father said being part of the church is a lot like Noah’s ark. "If it weren’t for the storm on the outside, you wouldn’t be able to stand the stench on the inside." Indeed. We’ll, I love the church! I know she’s far from perfect, but praise God!, I need to be part of a community of hope where I can cast my lot with fellow pilgrims struggling to stay on the narrow road.
Two thoughts from the Apostle Paul on the Church…
Ephesians 4:3-6 "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit — just as you were called to one hope when you were called — one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all."
Colossians 1:18 "Jesus is the head of the body, the church."
No matter how tattered the dress of the bride of Christ looks, she will triumph. That’s because Jesus is the Head of the Church, and he will have his Bride. So don’t give up, friends. Keep pressing on…
