The Champaign Vineyard is in the midst of a 7-week breakthrough series based on the book of Mark. I have found the breakthrough devotional book written by Jim and Vicki Egli to be just terrific. If you don't have one, or have put yours down for a few days, please go back to it. TheContinue reading
From Dust to Dust!
Today is Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent. During Lent, the believing community accepts its mortality. I have been watching the workers erecting our new church addition plod slowly through the thick mud today. They look ever so mortal. In an act of humility and as a sign of mortality with all of humankind, manyContinue reading "From Dust to Dust!"
Authenticity leads to Breakthroughs
The Vineyard has begun a new Breakthrough series that will lead us through Easter on March 25. One of the things I'm hoping for in the lives of the men of the Vineyard is complete authenticity. Over the months the so-called Osama Binladan keeps issuing audio messages. The United States entered Afghanistan to destroy Binladan,Continue reading "Authenticity leads to Breakthroughs"

Don’t Judge them too soon!
There's a fascinating piece in the Jan. 23, 2005, edition of the New York Times Magazine about Jay Bakker, son of Jim and Tammy Bakker of PTL Club fame. Now 29, Jay was 11 when the family's empire crumbled amid revelations that his father had had sex with a staff member named Jessica Hahn. BakkerContinue reading "Don’t Judge them too soon!"
Andrew Comiskey book is terrific

Comiskey is gut-level honest, theologically solid and well read. Great book to help you understand sexual brokenness and sexual healing. This book fills me with lots of hope. If youContinue reading "Andrew Comiskey book is terrific"
Healing and freedom for Sexual brokenness!
The Bible talks a lot about sex. Read the Song of Songs. Even from the first pages of the Bible we read: "The Lord God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a help suitable for him." The man said, "This is now bone of my bones andContinue reading "Healing and freedom for Sexual brokenness!"
Lot and Sodom and Gomorrah
When I read the account of Lot's words and actions in Genesis 19, I am struck with how much I don't like him and don't trust him. You can see an artist's rendition of Lot fleeing Sodom and Gomorrah in this picture. Abraham (uncle to Lot) begged God to not destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, butContinue reading "Lot and Sodom and Gomorrah"
